1. GENDER TRAINING WORKSHOP
WPP is a program of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation
(IFOR) founded in 1919. IFOR is an inter-faith
movement committed to active Nonviolence with branches and affiliates
in 43 countries. IFOR has consultative status at the
United Nations (ECOSOC) and has included six Nobel Prize
Laureates among its members. WPP has currently set up
Asia Regional Desk at Kochi, India; Cultural Academy is hosting the IFOR/WPP
Asia Regional Desk.
Cultural Academy for Peace (CAP) has been one of the
leading women’s organizations working in the field of Social Empowerment
since 1984. It was founded by a group of women, inspired by their community
living experience, dedicated to the empowerment of women and children.
The members of Cultural Academy for Peace envision a society which respects
human life.
We the IFOR/WPP Asia Regional Desk- Cultural Academy
for Peace, Kochi, India will be organizing a Gender Training for the International
Fellowship of Reconciliation members. This program is scheduled between
10th- 15th of March at Kochi, India. We are inviting about 10 participants
from different parts of Asia.
In the last IFOR council in Japan in 2006, IFOR
adopted a new Gender Policy. This was the first step to begin a Gender
process within all IFOR members and BGA’s.
One of the preparatory activities to realize is the Gender workshops for
IFOR BGA’s.
This workshop will provide us with the opportunity to analyze our organizations
in terms of Gender Sensitivity, Gender specific activities and discover
different ways of implementing our programs with a gender perspective.
It will help to bring linkages with Peace work and to plan an action program
for Gender Mainstreaming.
The Asian IFOR Gender workshops will take place at the
location where the new Asian WPP regional office is based
i.e. CAP- FOR India, in Cochin who will host and organize
the workshop.
Following the Gender Training there will be a meeting of Asia Regional
Desk and the BGA’s and the launching of the Asia Regional Desk officially
on 14th March,2008.
I . Purpose ;
A. Gender Sensitize the Head of Institutions.
B. Design Gender Mainstreaming strategies for the organization.
C. Implement Gender Sensitive Active Nonviolence in respective countries.
II. Objectives;
A. Mapping of IFOR organizations and activities linked
with Gender in Asia.
B. Effective Gender Mainstreaming Strategies are devised and implemented.
C. At least 15 Head of the institutions are trained to contribute for
Gender Mainstreaming processes.
Content:
A. Review the basic concept of gender and coming to a common understanding
of gender mainstreaming.
B. Review of IFOR’s gender policy: It is important
that each member of the BGAs knows about the existence
of this Gender Policy, and proposes how to implement it in their own BGA.
C. Conduct Gender Mapping of the BGAs: Each participant
will make a gender analysis of their own organization.
D. Review and discuss how gender links to:
– Peace building
– Non Violence
E. To come up with an Action Plan to implement the gender policy among
IFOR’s BGAs
Methodology:
Participatory, lecture, workshops and analysis.
Output;
A. At least 15 head of the institutions are Trained in
Gender Mainstreaming
B. Gender Mainstreaming Strategies are devised for BGA’S
C. Gender Mainstreaming Trainings are replicated by BGA’S at organizational/
community level.
D. An action plan for Gender mainstreaming the organization will be done.
2. INTERNSHIP FOR ASIAN WOMEN IN AFRICA
INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Internship for Asian Women in Africa
Call for Application
The IFOR / WPP Asia Regional Desk aspires to build the
capacities of TWO Asian women who are already involved
in Peace work and not exceeding the age of 35 years, by April,2008. This
internship will have a duration of two weeks including travel. The duration
of internship at Ghana, West Africa commences on 8th April,2008 and ends
by 16th April,2008.(dates subject to change in case of any eventuality)
We invite applications from the young women along with a recommendation
letter from their respective organization before 31st, January ,2008
Objectives
1. Up gradation of skills/ skills sharing between the interns and other
International peace activists from Africa.
2. Support their participation in Regional/ International Trainings
3. Create opportunities for the interns to further their critical thinking
and familiarity with burning International issues in Conflict Resolution,
Development , Human Rights , Gender Awareness and Peace Building
Responsibilities of Participants
1. Participants will have prior research on the situation of Peace and
relevant NGO’s including the IFOR
member, in their own country. They will make presentations on their findings
to the IFOR/WPP Africa Desk and to other
interested parties.
2. Participants will write an article in English on their findings and
on their experiences during the internship period for possible publication
in IFOR/WPP publications.
3. Participants may design their own program in cooperation with the Africa
Desk, or any NGO during their orientation.
4. Participants will engage in all evaluations of the internship
5. Participants must purchase before hand and pay for medical /health
insurance, for coverage during the period of their internship.
6. During the internship participants may also develop proposals for activities
they wish to carry out after their return to home.
7. Participants may participate in peace-related workshops trainings or
conferences that coincide with their visit to Africa.
8. Participants will be expected to engage in the daily work of the Africa
Desk.
9. Another task will be to compiling a youth newsletter including information
about activities in the IFOR branches , groups and affiliates like youth
peace camps , internship, trainings and other opportunities for youth.
The news letter will be laid out and distributed among IFOR branches and
other contacts.
