One day programme in Mamalakandam -Tribal Area- Focused on Women Rights
In the last decade or so the empowerment of women has been recognized as a central issue in determining the situational reality of their status. The Government of India has declared the year 2001 as women’s empowerment year and a lot has been and is being done at national and international levels. Yet the question remains unanswered in that despite all the efforts. Why women, particularly the tribal women continue to be so much backward in almost all levels in comparison with their class sisters? To find a solution to this, Cultural academy for Peace is organizing an empowerment programme for tribal women in Mamalakandam a tribal area located in Kothamangalam on 10th April, 2010.
Their will be session on Domestic Violence Act which will give them awareness on basic rights for women and various issues faced in different areas of life. In order to bring them closer to modern world, government framed and implemented many programmes for their development. But due to illiteracy, economic backwardness and lack of communication most of them remained unaware of these schemes. This will give them awareness about the importance of education, a fundamental right that provides opportunities for socioeconomic uplift etc and a video documentary on gender training.
We are focusing on the obstacles that come in the way of their empowerment. This awareness programme will act as a catalyst for stimulating people’s campaign for empowering the tribal women of Mamalakandam in reality.
