Inauguration of peace clubs at school
Cultural Academy for Peace would like to sincerely thank you for the participation of your students in the Inauguration Ceremony of Peace Clubs within your schools and the “Creative and Positive Writing” workshop held during the session.
We at CAP are happy to announce that Manasa Dhalotil, TocH; Gopika Jairam, Bhavans Eroor; and Anjali Nair, Bhavans Elakamarra were the top three finalists for the essay competition conducted for selection into the Asia Girl Child Peace Camp in Nepal. It was dismaying to not allow all these bright young scholars the chance to partake in this camp, but we emphasize that this is not the end of the road for them. While only two may go on to Nepal this year, there are a number of other leadership opportunities available for them all.
We were very much impressed by the insights and enthusiasm that your students conveyed through the interactive debate that was conducted during the workshop. But more than their ability to articulate their opinions, we were impressed by the eagerness they displayed for initiating Peace Clubs within their own school communities
A question we anticipate to hear is certainly a legitimate concern: Why should schools take the initiative of jumpstarting these clubs? From a brief viewing of the news everyday, children can be overwhelmed by the many wars, crimes, human rights violations, and other related injustices that they hear about taking place around the world. Since negative-minded articles and topics are often the only ones published and discussed, they may slowly accept and be desensitized to the critically neglected issues in society. The goal of the peace clubs is to stop and prevent such desensitization of these issues that demand awareness. The goal of peace clubs is rather to instill in students a positive mindset not only to further the interests of peace in their communities but to build their character as leaders.
To elaborate on the actions we hope the Peace Clubs will take to further this aim, we have attached to this letter a report evaluating the successes of the Peace Clubs in the past, a summary of the key ideas and events that transpired during the Inauguration Ceremony your students attended, objectives for the future, as well as suggested activities for the clubs.
By having an active participation in these peace clubs through the various activities suggested below, students can learn how to become voices of social change within their own school community while raising awareness of critical social justice issues. The schools themselves would be accredited with enhancing the intellectual growth and exploration of these students and helping them grow into creative scholars and budding leaders.
